FAQ

HANDPAINTED CLOTHING - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I need to get my own jacket?

I recommend clients to send over their own jackets. That way you can make sure the jacket fits and are happy with the make. Whether the jacket is old or new is up to your discretion. The only important factor is that the item needs to be denim or over 80% cotton - otherwise the paints might not stick! (if you prefer a leather jacket please get in touch as these require specific treatment + paints).

If you would like myself to scout a jacket for you, this can be done with an added fee. As a brand I make the effort to stay as sustainable as possible. Therefore any jackets I source for customising will always be second hand or vintage.

Scouting jackets prolongs the process a tad, as I keep in touch with clients while searching for the right item! Making sure to find the right style and size takes time sometimes, so please keep that in mind.

Do you only paint on jackets, or can I commission something else?

You can absolutely commission anything you'd like! From bags to jeans and overalls to cushions - as long as its denim or over 80% cotton - anything is possible! Leather goods such as boots and bags are also possible to paint :)

If you are unsure whether an item is customisable, or you have a particular request, don't hesitate to get in touch!

How do I clean and care for my jacket?

The paints used are made for fabric and are waterproof. Each jacket is also sprayed with weatherproof spray - so you can happily wear them out and about no matter the season!

Due to the handmade nature of the items, slight fading as the jacket softens with wear can be expected. Although I do recommend storing your jacket away from exposure to sunlight.

To clean - HAND WASH & DRY CLEAN ONLY.

How long does it take?

Depending on how much work needs to be put in (and whether I am sourcing the jacket), customising can take anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks.

I like to think of customised clothing as a collaboration between the client and myself :) . Therefore I encourage clients to be as specific as possible about what they would like upfront, so we don't come across any errors during the process.

In general the time it takes to upcycle a jacket are as follows (not including sourcing or shipping time):

FULL JACKET

(back, front + sleeves)

1 month

FRONT AND BACK

2 to 3 weeks

BACK ONLY

2 weeks

Smaller jobs can be done much quicker, and I will always let you know if that's the case :)

What about prices?

As each item is custom made and designed with you in mind, the prices will vary depending on what is being created. In general, the more work & paint an item needs, the more it will cost. However, you can look at a quick run-down of starting rates for popular items here.
